About Nora Sallows

Nora Sallows Nora Sallows resides in Wauseon, Ohio with her husband Scott and daughter, Katie. The owners of three rescue dogs and two “found” cats, they are strong supporters of the environment and pet rescue organizations.

The artist is probably best known for her series of college and professional coaches paintings, but Nora’s current passion is plein air painting. Weekends are spent trekking through Northwest Ohio’s numerous woods and marshes, looking for the perfect place to set up her easel and paint a "living landscape". She enjoys the freshness and vitality that results from painting from life and intentionally limits the use of photographs in her work.
Another love is portraiture and she attends the Hyter Group weekly to paint from the live model, which gives her a strong edge when she must complete a portrait using a photograph. The tones and textures of skin and hair are best portrayed by observing the living subject. While it isn't always possible to paint a commission from life, the variety of models she paints at the Hyter Group give her the necessary skills to make the painting rich, interesting and more life-like.

After working as a graphic designer for many years in 2001 Nora enrolled in a painting class at Defiance College. Since then she has studied with celebrated portrait artist, Judith Carducci, with the reknowned Michael Malm and with David Buckley Good, an instructor at The Schuler School of Fine Arts in Baltimore.

Nora is a member of the Ohio Plein Air Society, The Portrait Society of America, The Toledo Artists Club, The Hyter Portrait Group and the Black Swamp Art Guild of Williams County. She sells her work through her website and on internet auction sites and teaches oil, acrylic and pastel workshops at various locations throughout the Midwest.

Her oil and pastel paintings have earned numerous awards and she was honored as the Artist of the Month in 2006 by the Imagine Foundation in Jacksonville, IL. Her work hangs in collections throughout the United States, Europe, Canada and Australia.
